Desolation of Smaug
Great show, but word of advice; if you're on the fence then wait for the third movie.
My logic is infallible. Resistance is futile.

I think he went too far with it, but I don't think he ruined it. Yes, I could have done without Legolas and the underground tombs, but creating cohesion between the Hobbit and LotR is a good thing. That said, it does feel as though they're working very hard to make more movie, and thoughtful editing would improve the films.

I think cutting the action scenes down by 1/3rd to 1/2 would improve the films.

RE: Desolation of Smaug
It's like they released the extended version for theaters. I have to say this will scream for a fan edit if not a singular made for TV version or something. I have only seen the first movie and was so disappointed I am passing on the rest for now.

It would be most interesting if an official short version was released. I mean if he made the extended version of LOTR to be more true to the books, shouldn't he make a more true to the book version for The Hobbit? I can understand not releasing a 3 plus hour version to theaters, but this trilogy is clearly overextended.
