I need to replace my Pro 1,1. This new Pro is the first I’ve seriously considered in quite a while.

Not me. I'm kinda bummed that the cheese grater moniker is taken though... this one really captures the essence.

Also I think macOS would have been a better choice than iPadOS.

I guess I'm excited that they're going to remove a bunch of stuff from iTunes, but I'm not confident that'll fix it. With the exception of iPod, Apple has been unsuccessful at making a fun and user friendly music player.

RE: So.
There’s major flaws in that parts list.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not defending Apple’s price, but that parts list has a shitty ssd, shitty case, no cpu cooler, and will burn itself down.

And is apparently changing by the minute.

considering that I didn't really work too hard at fine tuning the filter criteria I was expecting a lot more complaints about the list than that. Almost everything is a filter search component as realistically you'd find the best parts available at the time from the brands you like and shit.

Why will it burn itself down though? Not sure which part you're referring to for that,

RE: So.
$25 CPU cooler, mediocre case, no extra fans.
CPU throttle city, baby.

Just spec that fucking huge Noctua CPU cooler and a decent case in the $160 range so you get reasonable cooling.
Also, Samsung 870 plus or GTFO.

You should also tack on another $100 for some 10GB Ethernet.
Your CPU also falls... short. A 28 core E5 ain't gonna go for under $1k.

Point being, once you spec out real feature equivalence you're gonna be closer to the Apple price than you assume.

28 core? I'm comparing it to the $6000 Mac Pro. Which one were you comparing it to?

I'm carefully assuming the $6000 Mac Pro isn't a cobbled-together piece of shit. But that's just me.

Also, that's just not how retail pricing works.

You also can’t even spec out the processor that the Mac Pro will get.
Also: ECC Ram. So add another $850 to your cost.

Also, get a case worth looking at and with the ease of access that the new pro has: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XYXL7TW/ref...9CbDXJ3RMT

Your perceived savings just aren’t there.

I’m hoping it drives down prices of used Trashcans. I wouldn’t mind having one of those as a server.

Footprint smaller than a Mac Mini, with upgradable multicore Xeons. Plus, they're officially allowed to run macOS VM's. No FireWire, though, that's a shame. I have a dongle, but had mixed experiences with it. On a MacBook, admittedly, so on a server it should be less wiggly and thus (probably) more reliable.

RE: So.
I just got rid of the last of my Firewire, but its pushing the power limits of my power supply, so I'll probably end up with a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Ultra Super Speed Wowowow So Fast external case for these two drives. That is, if I can figure out whether I need Wowow speed or Wowowowowow speed.

I still have unused FW800 external drive enclosures if anyone is interested.
