PLZ NOHT: NEW PC
https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/Futurdr...ved/Tkrm8d

kept my old HDD, GPU, and monitors. Everything else is new tho, $700.

Sadly I'm still waiting on the memory and keyboard to come in the mail so i can't use it yet Goth

RE: PLZ NOHT: NEW PC
lousy PPI on the monitors too. I've got an HP Z27s that could fit almost as much as your three monitors on my one screen.

Was originally going to stick with 4Gb until I could purchase more RAM at a later day, realized that was a terrible idea, and figured avoiding restocking fees would be cheaper when that extra 4gb shouldn't make much difference anyways.

Also the two 17" monitors are old as balls and were only $20 each. I don't really see that much point in a 4k display.

Low PPI people never see the point in a high PPI display until they actually use one.

RE: PLZ NOHT: NEW PC
The fact that it takes using one to understand why I would need one is literally the point. I can get by without one as is, and I barely use the far right monitor unless I'm doing a lot of multitasking. Eventually I may consider the switch, but not until the Vega 56 comes out with a better cooler.
My logic is infallible. Resistance is futile.

I'll never go back to low PPI displays. Ever.
I think it would actually be hard to, now. Don't know where I'd find one.

But, still, there's no reason to suffer it. New monitors can be had cheap any more.

Think of it as a health issue. Your eyes will thank you.

I use two large, low-PPI displays at work. We haven’t progressed since the days we were forced to make do with VGA resolutions on 17” CRT’s, it seems.

RE: PLZ NOHT: NEW PC
It might also depend a bit on the OS. Windows third party apps like the Intel settings screen get funky on 1366x768 screens but everything looks perfect on 1080p. 4K screens don't really look that great unless they are over 30" or so otherwise scaling breaks on legacy and poorly developed apps (like iTunes for Windows).

If an OS is designed for UHD screens in mind, system component might not scale down well to lower resolutions.

Seems like having a UI that nicely scales is a benefit.
Both Gnome & MacOS X scale just fine on anything.

A walled garden and forcing developers to behave works wonders, too. Switch Windows to a non-standard colour scheme and be amazed how many apps hard-code the standard colours onto buttons and scroll bars.

They just need to update. Now that Neon is the new standard everything is looking pretty epic.

People I know, you know, they're all saying that Windows is better now. They're good people, so they're... with the clicking and colors. Perfect. The best.

150% improvement when starting at 15% is commendable. The progress looks good but you're still using Windows. Even M$ gave up and put in a Linux subsystem, right?

Yes, that was my point. Well, apart from that sort of shit should never have happened to begin with, of course. It's a litmus test for bad programming. Much like autocorrected email fields on a web page are a litmus test for inept web design.

Speaking of web design...

That is very much subject to debate and personally, I think it looks like ass. I can't wait for this fad, where everything needs to look like it's designed to confuse the user whether or not something is clickable or just content, to die a horrible, painful death. We'll be looking back on this with the same mixture of embarrassment and bemusement as we do on nineties web design.

Not for nothing, but ever since Apple decided to "bring the best features of iOS to the Mac" the Mac has been in a steady decline. Windows might still suck, but Apple is racing to compete with it. :p

Also, low res displays are terrible. Treat yourself to one nice 27" high density display and replace the existing array of crappy pixels and cables.

RE: PLZ NOHT: NEW PC
I paid $20 each for the two monitors and only about $80 for the 1080p one. I might consider dropping the pair for a 1440p monitor later on, but before that I'm saving up for buying a new video card.

That being said, now it won't boot. Turning it on turns on the power led and fans (along with the hdd led and the mobo's RGB kit momentarily) but nothing else. I took apart the whole thing and didn't find anything, so I'm guessing either the old video card died or I zapped something while adjusting a cable. I'm going to bring it to Memory express so they can check all the components and hopefully find the cause. I just hope it's not the mobo, as that's the only part they don't have an equivalent for. But it's probably the mobo. I've done all the troubleshooting I can do without having access to replacement parts.

zip it.

Gosh.  I opened the box that my wife's macbook pro came in, pulled it out, and it worked.

Still works. So does my 2013 Retina Macbook Pro 15", and it's got a high PPI display.

Nor mine. And my 4K retina display is oh so lovely to look at.

RE: PLZ NOHT: NEW PC
At least I can rest easily that once I have it up and running it'll gradually improve in time as Microsoft makes progress on adding fixes and changes posted to the feedback hub. And that major bugs will be very unlikely to reappear when a new os version comes out.

That being said, I brought it to Memory express, but since I didn't buy any of the parts from them it will take a couple days to get it diagnosed and fixed. My Continuum hub comes in today so zi can use my pho e as a pc in the meantime.
