His seizures were getting out of hand. He died with his head in my hands on Saturday, Sept. 26 at about 2:30pm. He was almost 14 years old. WifeUnit and I are wrecked.

This is the last photo of him:

Once the vet determined he was gone, I covered him with a blanket on the floor, as if he were sleeping. I will always remember him that was, as I closed the door. I don't know that I have ever in my life cried this hard.

He was the best dog I ever met. He was happy and peaceful and loving. He was smart and good.
Sad
Suck.
Rest well, lil' buddy. May your bones be plentiful and the squirrels slow and dumb.
I'm tearing up here. Those are such great photos of your dear little friend. Such an expressive face.

When we lost M1, I think that was the only time I ever saw my father cry. Mom and I were in the supermarket and took a wrong turn down the pet aisle, and we both started sobbing.

I'm reminded of the old quote: "It's not the amount of years in your life, it's the amount of life in your years." It looks like Gus had a lot of living. Hold those good memories close to your heart.
I'm so sorry. It's so hard to lose a pet. Stay strong, you gave him a peaceful life and a peaceful end, and you made the right call.
I knew I didn't want to click this thread.

I need to dust my office.
Labs are so awesome. I still miss mine, 10 years gone.

We're all sorry for your loss here, man.
This cheered me up.. found some very old photos... Gus as a puppy! This is almost 14 years ago...

My office is still dusty.
Ok, I suck. But I have some happy news.

His name is Ollie. He was born Jan. 2, same bday as WifeUnit. He is different from Gus, & marvelous in his own way. I will post more pics tomorrowtime. For now.…[Image: vzhO3UU.jpg]

Sorry about pix, on my phone... thanks for letting me share. Will post more tomorrow
aw, he's cute!
He's from a litter of 12, a "rainbow litter" of black, chocolate and yellow pups. We picked him out because of his personality, and he just happened to be black. I call him Gus sometimes, but I always apologize. ;) he's not Gus2.0, he's definitely got a different personality. Though he's in puppy/teen mode now (holy crap what a handful) I can tell he's going to be an excellent dog as he matures.
Labradorable, indeed!
Too cute!
I love the captions on each one.
