That would imply a period of non-use.

The GP4000S is unbelievably supple and fast. I go through a set in a season, generally. They replace my winter tyres:

I changed to the 4-Seasons in October, after I skid into a small fence on a leaf-covered forest road. They are a little grippier and stay a little softer in the cold. The mold line on the front tread is still there after six months, and the one on the back has only been gone since the last 300K in late February. I suspect they will easily last another winter or two.
I like the gatorskin compound better.  The hardshell seems to last longer, at the expense of traction.
Well, it looks like I'll be finding out for myself, soon. I wrote a letter to Conti, complaining that for no apparent reason, this season I seem to be suffering an inordinate number of flats. Not punctures, mind you: just flats.

So they sent me a reply with the usual marketing blurb and how I should contact my supplier and that the tyre will be replaced if it is actually faulty (I doubt it is the tyre; I'm starting to suspect the rim tape, rather). And then they asked me if I want to be a tester for the "new" (old hat in the Anglo-Saxon market) GatorHardshell tyres. So they're sending me a set. If they hurry, I'll ride a 400K diagonally through the whole of the Netherlands (yes, it's that small a country) on them in July.

The ride sounds like fun.  The flats, not so much.

RE: Attention whore thread
They aren't.

I have the GatorSkin on my tourer, so it'll be nice to compare the twain. Although on those are 32mm tyres, and the ones they're sending me are 23mm, so it can't be a direct comparison. I am building a gravel racer out of an old hybrid, so I might put that one in 32mm Hardshells if I like them on the racer.

They're quite a bit heavier than my regular tyres, and I expect them to be stiffer, too. I was surprised to see that Conti classify the Hardshells above the GatorSkins. I was under the impression they were a more puncture resistant version of the same tyre at the expense of ride quality and rolling resistance.

Ride quality on a 23mm tire is an oxymoron anyhow.

I'll be sure to get some pics, but tomorrow when we set out at 3AM, I'm unlikely to do much of anything but drive and struggle against sleep.

I might poke around the car show on Wednesday, but will definitely be waving flags at Harris Hill Raceway on Thursday then helping with registration and miscellany on Friday and Saturday.

I'm skipping the judged car show.  Took enough abuse in 2012.
