My dad and I (and some friends) built a skateboard ramp.

Looks fun!

I'd probably break my wrist before making it all the way to the bottom of the ramp.

It is fun! The kit we bought had everything pre-cut which made it pretty easy, but I've never had to screw in so many screws before—there are about 1000 on the surface alone. Finished it on the late side on Sunday and I was already exhausted from bending over and drilling ( Flirt ) but I'm looking forward to learning a lot of new stuff!

Looks dangerous. Fill it with pillows and call it a Gazebo.

Started the CB350 tear down today.

For the most part, so far, Honda did it right. Save the wiring running through the handlebars and the front brake/fender assembly being awkward everything was straight forward to remove.

I've only needed my 10, 12, & 14mm sockets/wrenches and a screwdriver.

Speaking of classic bikes, I learnt today that Royal Enfield's Indian subsidiary still exists, and is talking about potentially exporting motorcycles to the US.

I don't know much about Indian-made motor vehicles, other than that the Tata Nano exists. I'm guessing the biggest question will be whether a motor vehicle from India will be reliable and well built.

I'm building gates. They're big, they're iron, and I welded them together.

There are two like this, and they'll close like french doors (except that they're about 150 lbs apiece, and one will have a cane bolt that goes through the driveway):

The interior of the gate will be filled in with perforated metal (not expanded metal, more like a speaker grille). The pilasters are 4x4 square tube, while the gates are 2x2 square tube (1/4" thick on the pilaster side, 1/8" around the rest of the outside, and 16 ga. interior).

bitchin. I've always wondered about welding at home... do I need special wiring? Do I have to welding to do to merit the work involved to set it up and the expense and what not. I don't think I do.

I'm using a Lincoln 180, which will run fine on a 20A outlet.

I'm in a unique position regarding the rest of it. My friend Frank is a professional GC, but he has a bunch of horrible friends that borrow his tools and never return them. To prevent this happening with his small welder (he also has a TIG that runs on a dedicated generator), he keeps it in my shed. All I have to do is keep my own gas bottle and wire, and I can use it as much as I want.

Ugh. Oil drain plug is frozen and I stripped it. So many other things were also gorilla tight so this doesn't surprise me.

Well, at least it's an excuse to head off to sears and buy some tools ;)

*sigh*

I really hate taking things apart and finding that there's a lot more work than anticipated. Especially when it's a house.

Yeah, houses have a habit of doing that. It is rather annoying.

I started redoing the windows on the first floor sun room. They turned out to be seriously out of plumb. I eventually determined that there wasn't adequate structural support built into the sunrooms so that the entire second story sunroom was supported by zero structural beams, but everything was on the window frames of the first floor. The only thing I can do is put in some jacks to brace the second floor (which isn't too warped) and rebuild all the first floor sunroom walls, cutting down the number of windows so I can put some pillars in. This also means losing my old wood windows on the first floor.

I went on a 78 mile motorcycle ride today. Only 1 mile was highway and most was curvy back roads and included a 3800' elevation change.

My ass is still the shape of the seat. Despite it being a BMW that seat isn't the greatest for long hauls.

Last night I installed this Map My Walk app on my phone and proceeded to hike around a Pacifica neighborhood for 56 minutes. The app told me I'd covered 1.88 miles and burned about 409 calories. Best of all, I got to see a map of everywhere I'd been.
