The thought of you squishing your sasquatch ass in to the back of that car for the interior shots makes me giggle.

I thought I'd give it a try on a raspberry pi and it seems to work wonders. Initial page load times are down significantly.
I'm currently manually pointing a few devices at it. I should be confident enough to enforce it at the router level pretty soon.

I still have a RPi sitting around doing nothing. Don't know what to do with it. I don't really need any IoT like things and running a GUI on these is too painful.

RE: Attention whore thread
After 6 months I finished and passed my Linux Server Tech cert course on Friday. I suggested and was the primary sys admin on the final group project which was testing and putting into production a web server that hosted a site for our group. I am proud that our group was able to get everything up and running. Now on to the Windows Server course!

And I was finally able to setup my Raspberry Pi as a timelapse trigger for my ancient 20D. Now to go out and have fun with it.

I got really frustrated trying to get the RPi talking to the 20D. I could take pics but transferring them off was a nightmare.

To be fair, that was 3 years ago. Hopefully it has gotten better.

RE: Attention whore thread
I haven't attempted that yet but I can report back to you if it does download the images. What I would like to eventually do is get some sort of web interface so that I can connect to the Pi when it is a WiFi hot spot and then use the browser on my phone or iPad to trigger the timelapse script instead of using a terminal app to run it.

Pi-hole installed and running on the Pi. Seems to work fine when I set my Pi as my Mac's DNS server. Would like to have the router use it as the DNS server of choice, but in order to change DNS settings on my router (a Sagemcom with custom firmware from my IPTV provider), I need the modem's serial number, and it's hidden behind a sofa right now, and everyone else is asleep in the house, so not happening tonight.

Still desperately trying to find time to get RetroPie running on the Pi.

That's really funny. I just did retropie today. Kinda disappointing on an older pi. Makes me want a new one to do this on.

I've been meaning to do this, too, blocking ads on the network level at home. I've got a blacklist etc/hosts file on my Macs, but we still have to suffer ads on our iPads and iPhones. I figure I'll get around to it when I set up a Mac Mini server with DNS service, though. I've been looking into setting up VPN pipes for all our stuff so we can surf securely and ad-free from the outside, too.

I find the Pi interesting, but can never really find a valid reason to buy one.

I just installed Firefox with the uBlock plugin on my phone. Granted running an Android app on BB10 is a bit slow and glitchy, so when I make the switch to the HP x3 (or another decent Continuum phone) I'll just unlock editing access to the hosts file.

PiHole blocked me from a domain last night, but it let me whitelist it.
All in all it's a worthwhile use of a Pi, I think. But overall I do admit that it takes a bit more than you realize to support it. But since the latest version has onboard wifi it's a bit cheaper overall. The biggest pain is power. I currently draw power from a USB hub.

A weird eye opener was that Raspbian Jessie comes with the locale set to en_GB. This is the first time I've had to swap an is from the default locale/language/keyboard.

I still have literally no idea what GPU to pair with the i3 I gave my kids.

I feel crotchety.

I'm going to guess somewhere in between the RX 470 and the GTX 1070. Really, just figure out what games they like and see what gets at least 60 fps on the monitor resolution they are using.
I got a GeForce GTX 1050 ti.

CLOSURE.

Found out today that the guy I shared an office with since 2012 is gonna become a uniballer like me and Gip.

Now I'm wondering if my old boss needs to wear one of those California warning labels.

Meh, it's good enough for most things. And I think it's the most powerful gpu you can get in a half-height card.
