Fun with Windows and touchpad drivers
Long story short: reinstaled Windows 8 on my computer only to find out that the Synaptics driver now refuses to install. The trackpad is apparently an Elantech but the elantech drivers are pathetic and up until now the synaptics drivers worked perfectly. I've been trying different versions to see if any work and had to do a restore because it somehow borked up the keyboard (and I didn't think I needed to do a restore point. I managed to get one that worked fairly well, but half of the settings were locked, scrolling was permanently inverted, and middle-click was disabled.

I finally tracked down the version I originally installed and it now works perfectly.

Question 1: Why the hell does Microsoft not include a decent generic trackpad driver?
Question 2: Is it really that hard to build in a basic compatibility mode into lan/wifi chips so that you can, oh I don't know, actually fucking download the right network driver so you can install everything else?
My logic is infallible. Resistance is futile.

RE: Fun with Windows and touchpad drivers
Had to do another restore because sleep mode was broken. I tried using iobit's driver booster to see if it would install the proper touchpad driver, and it must've installed a buggy driver but I couldn't figure out which one. I'm so glad I used Ninite to reinstall as many of my programs as it could.
My logic is infallible. Resistance is futile.
