Fun with printers
Setup

Network
->Windows 7 Laptop
->Epson Workforce 610 multifunction printer
->iMac with 10.9
\-->Lexmark e240 (USB)
\-->Windows 7 (Virtualbox, NAT)

The Windows 7 Laptop can connect to the Epson fine
I FINALLY got the Lexmark to work properly under Mavericks. Update damaged the driver and it threw a hissy fit whenever i tried to install the proper driver.

Problem 1:
Mac cannot connect to Epson. Apple recently decided to maintain their own drivers, so Epson washed their hands of the whole thing. The problem is: the Epson uses a wonky network configuration setup that requires their dedicated installer. That installer is not available. Epson redirects you to Apple's installation instructions, which do not cover how to install an Epson with a wonky setup method.

I can see the printer on the network, but it only shows up as a workgroup PC and cannot treat it as a printer. Attempting to manually connect by inputting it's IP address to the Add printer utrility also fails.

Problem 2:
The Windows computers cannot connect to the Lexmark. I had it working in the past, but Apple in their infinite wisdom has broken SMB printer sharing. I have managed to connect to the printer using SMB and Bonjour, but it just prints literal garbage, even using the Lexmark e240 printer driver.

Everything was much simpler when I had the old Mac running Windows Goth
My logic is infallible. Resistance is futile.

On the bright side I FINALLY figured out why bridge networking on the VM wasn't working, so now all three computers can print to at least one printer.

RE: Fun with printers
Solved problem 2. Apparently Bonjour does some sort of driver remapping, so you can't use the driver specifically for that model printer.

Problem 1 seems to be impossible. Epson seems to have hard wired their driver for USB use.
My logic is infallible. Resistance is futile.

Epson Perfection 1670, OS 10.7.5 (Update Killed The Scanner)

Thanks to Joel Brunner!!!

Mac updated Epson drivers and the my Perfection 1670 stopped working!!! I spent hours trying to figure out what happened!!!

Try this? I had trouble with the new driver update...

1. Delete the new Epson Scanner.app (in Library/Image/Capture)

2. Follow link below to download the old Epson Scanner.app

EPSONScanner5315.zip

3. Place the downloaded Epson Scanner.app file into your folder (you will need to authenticate)

4. Reboot!

What you might need is the old Epson Scanner.app version 5.3.15
meh.

I want to network print, not scan.
