o hai guys! Lemon Question re: iCal
Remember in iCal that there was a section for "reminders" or "to dos" ( I forget which they called it) over on the right of the screen? Well, seems that's disappeared as of Mavericks but they didn't transfer the information stored there automatically into either of the newly independent Notes or Reminders applications, so it seems to me that all those things I'd PLEASE NOTED got sucked into the Great Whirling Cupertino Dervish Machine.

Hopefully I am incorrect and this information is hiding somewhere down in the bowels of Steve Jobs corpse in the System or Library section but I kinda sorta doubt it. AND YES I GOOGLED ABOUT THIS INFORMATION AND FOUND NUFFIN' SO PLEASE HELP ME OR I WILL TOILET PAPER THE APPLE STORE ON WALNUT STREET IN FILTHYDELPHIA IN EXACTLY THREE DAYS AT 4AM.ShakefistNuke

It either exists wherever ical stores it's info, or it has been purged. You did keep a backup, right?

are you suggesting that beddy fires toilet paper out your ass? Eek

also, you have to wet it AFTER. not before. if you do it before, you're just lobbing giant spitballs.

Giant spitballs that splat and stick onto the glass.

Afterwards, could you send some TP to blackberry? I don't want you to TP them, it's just that, well, they can't afford it anymore.

FTFY

beddie, check ~/User/Library/Calendars and see if you can find anything in there with the text of your item. I'd use grep or TextWrangler to search through all of the files in that directory.

Odds are, that's where it'd be if it's still there. I never used the feature, so I don't have a way to look on my machine. But when Apple removed RSS from Mail a year ago, I was able to find the RSS items buried in my Mail directory.

Did you upgrade to Mavericks from < Mountain Lion? Because I'm quite sure all my iCal to do items transferred to Reminders just fine. Way back in Mountain Lion when Reminders was introduced.

Yes, I upgraded from 10.8.9

Was there a Reminders app in Mountain Lion? Maybe that's when they didn't transfer. I could have sworn they were still in the calendar app then.

Yes, Reminders debuted as a separate app in Mountain Lion. It displays your synched reminders from iCloud, same as iCal did. So unless you had them stored locally (which was probably possible), they should not be gone.

How old are these things on your todo list? It sounds like no amount of reminding is going to get you to do them.

RE: o hai guys! Lemon Question re: iCal
Well, I really used that section as more akin to a shopping "wish list" on amazon. I do have back ups of iCal and the last one was on 7/24 but if I restore it that will fuck up things more. What's odd is if that file is called Calendars and Reminders 7.24.13 11.50 AM.icbu and they were separate programs in 10.8 dunno... just seems strange.

So anyway, I obviously have the info on an external drive as even though I use Time Machine I always made periodic exports of iCal and Address Book data to external drives as a precaution, same with my iPhoto library. Not monthly or anything, but at least 4 times a year.

So what application other than Calendar should I attempt to extract some of this data?

I knew it. I knew this was going to turn out to be one of those "I use this tool for a purpose it wasn't designed for at all, and then it failed and things went awry and now I somehow need to pin the blame on the tool" type stories. Cool. I love those.
