Do you run this as a chron job / launch daemon/agent? Or do you just run this periodically when your Chromium feels rusty? Looks like it just goes ahead an quits Chromium if it's running.

Could work to have it run as a daemon that waits for Chromium to quit and does the update at that time, Chrome style. Then if Chromium is reopened before the download finishes, it would wait once again for it to quit. (I was using a program today that locked me out of using it for several minutes due to an auto-update that I hadn't been warned about).

Also, for those who didn't see it on page one:

Nah. First sign of dust I run it manually. It's no biggie. Plus, I only quit my main browser about once a week so cron would just get annoying, even with the auto restore tabs feature.
The chaos army seems suspiciously well organized.

Seems like a decent lifestyle. I might try to figure out how to automate it like a weirdo.

2001:4860:4860::8888 (google-public-dns-a.google.com)
clients3.google.com
ssl.gstatic.com

I decided to leave it open in the background. A few minutes later, it tried:
google.com

If I leave it running, it's just a matter of time before it tries to reach out to maps.google.com. But I'm going to close it down.

Also, this is Version: 29.0.1505.0 (199522)

This time it tried to connect to img.youtube.com

Interesting. I assume you've tried the same test with Chrome, Firefox and Safari?

Also. Do you know what information it was passing or trying to retrieve? I'm not concerned with the fact that a browser tries to talk to outside services. There's many things that it can do to try and make the browsing experience better, but I am concerned about WHAT it is trying to transfer.

It is my understanding not that it simply makes not requests that you don't explicitly request, moreso that it doesn't do the user tracking that Chrome does.

I don't know the contents of the transmission. But I suspect by your tone that unless it were transmitting, "gippy is a bronie!" you wouldn't strenuously object. Even if it's an empty transmission, it's still communicating data to the mother ship.

This time it's talking to code.google.com

and now plusone.google.com
