STFU about meals on wheels already
Becuase, I mean, if we had and governments at the state, county, or city level, they could probably do this.

I mean, if we had those institutions and paid taxes to them.

Could. Yes. But the states consistently prove to be inconsistent. Also, wouldn't be an issue if the money he was cutting wasn't instead going to a bigger war profiteering machine and flights to Ma-a-lago. Also: golf.

I would love for states to keep more than they send to the Feds. With all that money California would be living in the future already instead of feeding the red states who lag behind due to shorty local governments.

Have you been to Mississippi?

Alabama?

Kansas?

If not, STFU.

That was the intention, by the way.  Many of us think that local government is better than federal government.

Is it, though? Seems to me like the food money has been diverted to the war machine, not been returned to the states or not taken from the states at all.

Where is the shut down or crippling of these programs benefiting the states?

I wasn't talking about food programs, I was speaking more generally. And we share concern that our local dollars go to the fed and are funneled into programs that we don't value.

Forest, trees... the food programs are a microcosm. This budget proposal is getting you further away from your dream of independent states. Yay, no more { insert minute-% of budget program here }, right? Stick it to the states with a massive increase in the war machine.

No federal budget ever has gotten me closer to independent states, so your point is moot.

You know this guy is super left, right? I watch his show religiously because he's hilarious, but he's not a voice of reason any more than Colbert's satire was.

I'm also just fine with my money paying for social programs. I don't like it paying for corprorate welfare or war. I support Planned Parenthood and meals on wheels. I'm all for free or assisted college tuitions. Federal assistance for law enforcement and infrastructure too. Sure, I'd prefer a society where we don't have individuals that need financial assistance programs. But that's not the reality we live in.

We live in a "Christian nation" that would prefer to forget the poor and hope they go away so that a few more dollars can be spent on starbucks. WWJD?

I'll win some and lose some. That's why I'm on the inter webs. To  Whaa about it.
I am pretty confident, though, that if all this spending were at the state level, I'd have the same win/lose ratio. But the upside is that California would be living in the future with all the cash it saves by not floating the red loser states. I may not be as rosy about it were I still in Colorado.

And you could have moved away from CO earlier. I know it's dickie to say you can move away, but that's how it is, it was one of Locke's fundamental points about man in nature and the reason for society.

But you and I make enough to move away. What do you say to those that can't? Tough titties and enjoy your trans vaginal ultrasound?

Also, you're gonna have to refresh my memory on Locke. I haven't kept up on my 17th century philosophy.

Okay, how about some context with that graph: https://mises.org/blog/which-states-rely...l-spending

Okay, so take the "red" out of my "red loser states". Doesn't change my point.

Your point was you didn't get back what you sent.
If you lived here in IL you have a legitimate bitch, Cali not so much since you actually get more than you send now.
It certainly wouldn't fix your budget problems and allow some wonderful futuristic world.

RE: STFU about meals on wheels already
I guess it depends on which FAKE NEWS site you trust: http://www.politifact.com/california/art...t-gets-dc/

Quote:In January 2017, the California Legislative Analyst’s Office said by several measures California is, indeed, a donor state, but just barely. It receives $0.99 in federal expenditures per dollar of taxes paid, which is below the national average return for states of $1.22 per dollar paid, according to its review of a 2015 New York Comptroller study.

Probably heavily depends on the year, as well.
