RE: PLEASE NOTE
So, because I was less opposed to Hillary I should have voted for the guy that I was more opposed to? Or should I not have voted?

Less opposed to is also a loaded term (I know, I used it). I align quite well with democrat values. Less so with Libertarian and Republican. I don't see how your argument fits in here.

They're viable now. You just have to vote for them.

Imagine what 2020 would be like if Gary Johnson got 5% of the vote. Equal time and funding for a new conservative party.  Republican vote would be split.  To a strategist that's a waaaay better move than electing Hillary.  But people are dumb.

I'd like to believe this, but in this instance both Johnson and Stein are fucking nuts. And I don't just have to vote for them--they have to win my vote.

Again, the vote isn't to elect Johnson or Stein, it's to elevate their parties.  No one is suggesting that they'll somehow go from obscurity to the White House in one fell swoop (indeed, they didn't).  And besides, Trump and Clinton are also fucking nuts. I, for one, wonder what either one of them did to "win your vote."
Given that Trump's rhetoric has emboldened far too many people to openly denigrate and assault minorities, I felt there was far too much at stake in this election to try to elevate a candidate who simply had no chance of winning. Also, why is it the only time I ever hear about third parties is during presidential elections? I'd take them far more seriously if they worked harder to build from the local level up.

By the way, I'm curious why you didn't vote for Trump because a year back you said you intended to, and I believed you..even if you only meant it as a protest vote.

In any case, I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. Trump and Clinton are a lot of things, but "fucking nuts" is not the description I'd use for either of them.

I was going to. I meant it when I said it.  Then I got involved in a local political issue, and took to Twitter to spread the word. I followed Trump and ultimately it showed me that I couldn't bring myself to vote orange.

I admire the man's sense of drama. I enjoyed his trolling and his tactics.  It's entertaining.  But once I got through the veneer, I found him to be too boorish.  And the punchline of being able say that I voted for him felt thin and unfunny.

I paused before I voted.  I thought to myself whether or not I should vote Trump. Ultimately patriotism took hold.

Wow, like, really. That's so bad it makes the whole Penn State freshmen class being added to a Nigger Lynching list seem like a joke, doesn't it. I mean, that woman scared so many people!

RE: PLEASE NOTE
Well how about this?

It is possible to support a politician even if you don't agree with all of his policies - especially if basic logic indicates that the policies that you most disagree with are unlikely to be pulled off.

And most importantly, you need to consider more how people act then how they are voting. Yes many polls have indicated that Trump voters are strongly against minorities such as Muslims, but how much of that has translated into actual physical attacks against specific persons of a minority? It's far easier morally to support a blanket ban against a vague and unvetted "other" then to go out of your way to hassle and harm the nice Indian family that run the local 7-11. While there are certain places in the states that are actively hostile towards minorities, they have been actively hostile under Obama's leadership and would continue to do so under Clinton - thanks to underlying problems like a overaggressive police force. Here's the thing - many people simply have a dislike for the unknown, and can live in communities that are a bit homogenized. They would be against the introduction of elements such as gays or minority ethnic groups (especially when all they know about these groups are the more scary parts that show up on the news), but once they get to know these groups they would more likely than not grow to accept them as a part of their communities. They do not like being given the impression that they will be forced to accept change no matter if they like it or not. This is what mobilized the Amish. The news made it seem as if Clinton would turn the country into a failed utopia where woman shit on signs in the middle of the streets and straight white males would have to use the back entrance, and that scared them.

Spoken like a privileged white guy.

And, no, no one is required to consider how Trump supporters act as opposed to how they vote. That's the equivalent of telling a woman who's raped she needs to make peace with her rapist.

Trump voters knew exactly who this man was and they turned a blind eye and endorsed him anyway. Go fuck yourself.

To be fair, making peace isn't the same as forgiving. You can't really let one horrible event control you and your emotions for the rest of your life, otherwise it's like the rapist won.

RE: PLEASE NOTE
Again, only a privileged white male would equate the serious emotional and physical trauma of being raped with the idea of winning or losing. It's not a fucking competition.

One more time, no one is obliged to forgive people for voting for Trump. After all, he didn't campaign on the promise of bringing people together and working in unity. That was Hillary Clinton, and Trump's voters took a pass and instead voted for the guy whose entire platform is based on white supremacy and privilege and hate and fear of anyone who isn't white. They chose the guy endorsed by the KKK.

My point is that your life is not over if that happens to you, unless you let it be. You can either stumble around like a broken doll with the shadow of what has been done to you engulf the rest of your life - like a trophy of the rapist's mark on the world, or you can strive to find a way to make peace with what has happened and move forward with your life. Did you even read the goblins link i referenced? It may seem strange to you, but it is possible for some people to empathize with and understand what others are feeling and what they are going through.
