Also this thing is firmly, ummm, "inspired" by Apple, as far as design goes. built-in keyboard sucks balls, though. Obviously no-one ever bothered trying to use this layout before they shipped it. And I'm not even talking about the fact they gave me a Swiss localised machine.

Are they still shipping with the numpad to the right of the rest of the keys?

Because that is the single stupidest keyboard layout, and HP without a doubt held onto it the longest.

My work HP laptop does not have that. The previous one didn't, either.

But they do have a column of keys to the right of the keyboard (page up/down, that sort of crap that seems so god-damn important to especially people who never even heard of a terminal), throwing off my muscle memory by shifting the entire keyboard left by one key and not having the return, shift en delete keys be the rightmost keys. Brilliant design. I bet the knot-bearded fucker that came up with that never takes his henna-tattooed hands off of his Wacom tablet.

Because pressing [fn] and one of those god awfully unusable cursor keys at the same time is too difficult to explain in a manual and those vitally important VT-100 keys need to be on everything in 2017, dagnabbit!

When I worked for HP I was always a generation or two behind, because they gave us the leftovers that either didn't sell, or were returned for depot repair.

I had one with an AMD chip, a spinny drive, a 1200x768 screen, and a numpad.  Biggest pile of shit I'd ever seen, I was glad when I accidentally knocked it off the counter and broke the fucking thing.

But hey, at least it didn't have some kinda weird keyboard LED thingy on it, I guess.

Technically that's discrimination. Your basing all of your opinions on a few specific models. Also: well no shit. That HP problably costs $500 while you guys use $1,500 laptops. Here's the Lenovo X1 Carbon:

Technically, any feature-based sorting is discrimination.

I don't want that laptop (or any laptop from Lenovo), because it probably comes with Lenovo's rootkit on it from the factory.

I use a pretty expensive laptop at work.  It's a MacBook Pro, and I use it because I fukn' want to.

I don't give two shits if it has a fadoodly keyboard with little lights.

I would further discriminate against "touch enabled" machines because I don't want fukn' prints from my or any of my cow-orkers' booger-hooks all over my monitor.  Fuck that noise.

It's centered with the spacebar.

It is an answer. No point centering with the chassis when the keyboard itself is asymmetrical. It's perfectly inline with the nubbin, which itself is dead center between the f and j keys. Which have little bumps for a reason.

Yes, because this is my starter job and this is the first Windows notebook I ever used. I never had the pleasure of being handed a Lenovo or Dell or whatever.

It only brings up the question of why the fucking keyboard isn't centered.

So this ZBook thingie came with a docking station. A Thunderbolt docking station. Which just, on the fourth day, stopped working completely. Out of the blue. Niiiiiice.

Fukn thing is as dead as a dildo. Wanna have a giggle? Try googling "HP Thunderbolt 3 dock". We ordered two new ones. These notebooks are being rolled out new, and most people in our office are still on the older models. There are just four of us with these fancy new ones. Now, we'll at least have a spare.

You know, I always used to wonder why Windows notebook users would carry mice around everywhere they went. Then I got to use a trackpad on a Windows machine for the first time, and it all clicked into place. It is now a decade and a half later, and things have not improved appreciably. What the fuck is up with that?

Well, I guess it is because this dock issue will be fixed by way of a BIOS update, while the whole dongle mess will never, ever be remedied because USB A CONNECTORS FOREVERZ LULZ AMIRITE

Oh, wait, no... these docks have been misbehaving right out the factory door for months and no amount of software updating has fixed them, yet. Hey, why isn't the tech press writing clickbait articles about the decline of HP QC every fucking day of the week? I guess nobody gives a shit about misbehaving Windows crap, that's why.
