There was one spot that was brighter than they wanted, but its small and if you consider that normal cells register between 1 and 2 on this scale, and that this registered around 2.9, and that cancerous cells typically register between 15 and 25 I feel pretty good about it. I have another scan in 5 weeks.

Whew!

Good, now get back to work, you lazy fucker!

RE: Furry little balls of Cancer
I'm back in on Monday.
Half days to start, though. I'm pretty lucky my boss went through leukemia with his wife so he's very sympathetic to me easing back in. In fact, it was his idea.

Staying with Kaiser. Can't afford to go anywhere else, really. The Dr. actually performing the surgery has a long history and came to Kaiser via UCSF and Stanford. So, I don't see any red flags right now, but i do need to look him up a little more just to be sure.

Sad

Good luck, we're all counting on you.

But seriously, it's the worst surgery.  The. Worst.

Did I mention that I had to go back in for exploratory laparotomy because I blew out my stitches when I sneezed?

Yeah, I'm not looking forward to it. I did call MD Anderson to get rough (very rough) cost estimates and was disappointed. Even if I could get my Dr. to refer me out of network MD Anderson doesn't play with Kaiser. Boo.

I do need to hit up UCSF to see what the local folks say.

It was really hard to get my surgeon to agree to do it locally.

Get to it, though.

You'll never look at taking a good shit the same way again, that's for sure.

RE: Furry little balls of Cancer
That said. Looking up the history of the Dr. that I'm scheduled with (and who I met today) I am actually becoming comfortable with the idea of staying at Kaiser. He was a professor of Urology at Stanford. I'm curious how he ended up at Kaiser, though, but it also appears as though he's not exclusively a Kaiser surgeon, either.

He was skeptical that he would be able to do the surgery, and wanted me to go somewhere with more doctors that had done it more often.

I did not know what that acronym stood for, so I googled it.

I still wish I did not know.

Ah...

Mine seems pretty comfortable with it. Said he's got many of these under his belt over the years (I want to say hundreds, but can't recall for sure the number he gave). Also expressed that he will have a vascular surgeon backing him up. Everything I've found so far leads me to believe that he's OK.

But, then bad decisions are always revealed in hindsight  Ohnoes
