Okay, one small correction: I thought the setup assistant set up Home Sharing for me as well. According to the User Guide, it did not, and as I write this, I now remember it being the one thing I did have to type in manually. Once it was done, though, I had no problem using the Remote app on my iPhone.

They went downhill shortly after the race to the lowest price. Microsoft is planning on trying something different with Intel-based Surface phones, but I'm not going to worry about that. I'm still happy with my Z30, and can't really think of anything I'd want in it's replacement.

Yeah, My most frequently used apps that use the sparkle framework fortunately updated right after this was announced. I have a few others left that I manually check for updates to fix it. Fortunately that left over list is small.
